Harriett J. Johnson, age 92, of Omro, died Monday, June 25, 2018, at the Omro Care Center. She was born on April 22, 11926, in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Proceeding her in death are her parents, Charles and Florence Johnson; her brother Clifford Johnson, and his wife, Marie Kretlow, and his wife, Betty Kushman; a sister and brother-in-law, Virginia “Bunt” and Leo Godlewski; and her life-long friend, Bernice Smith.
Harriett attended the Evangelistic Bible College in Chicago and Bethel College in Indiana. During this time is when she met Bernice and Bill Smith. After graduation, Harriett moved to California and joined her friends in starting up a private school for mentally challenged children, which was called Sun Valley Private School. After 14 years, the school was moved to Fort Bragg, California, where Harriett continued teaching. They opened up a little shop, called One of a Kind. Here the children made all sorts of art and craft projects, including jewelry making. Harriett was not only an unique teacher, but, was an accomplished artist and a jack of all trades and care-giver for Wilma Kannegeiter until Harriett’s illness.
After retiring, Harriett returned to Wisconsin and took up residency in Butte des Morts and later in Omro. For over 25 years Harriett conducted bible studies in her home. Throughout her life Harriett spread the Word of God and was very inspirational to everyone she met. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Harriett is survived by her nieces and nephews, Judy and Dan Everett of North Carolina, Clifford and Joan Johnson of Fond du Lac, Sandy and Norm Krause of Omro, Larry, Bernice, and Randy Johnson of Fond du Lac, Blair and Terry Jo Johnson of Shawano, Pat and Vern Dodson of West Virginia, Kay La Combe, Diane Godlewski, Mary Lulewicz of Kenosha, Peggy Karach, Dorothy and Ron Dipzler of Friendship, and Susie Sartin of Glencoe, Illinois.
Services for Harriett will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 2, 2018, in the chapel of Lake View Memorial Park, 2786 Algoma Blvd., Oshkosh. A time of visiting and sharing of memories will be held on Monday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials to HOPE Cancer Connection of the Fox Valley, 446 N. Westhill Blvd, Suite 2, Appleton, WI. 54914, in Harriett’s name would be appreciated.
