Obituary for Joyce Elaine Roberts (Bradley)

Joyce Elaine Roberts, age 91, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2018. She was born in Waukau on June 18, 1927 the daughter of the late Frank and Bernice (Hildebrandt) Bradley. She married Lee Roberts on March 1, 1946. After graduating from Oshkosh High School, Joyce attended and graduated from Constance School of Cosmetology. Joyce owned and operated the Le-joy Beauty Salon in Omro for 30 years, until her retirement in 1987. She was a member of the Waukau Methodist Church and First Presbyterian Church in Omro, where she was ordained as an elder. She was a member of the Omro Businessmen’s Club, Wisconsin Wood Chippers and volunteered for the Oshkosh Convention Center. She was a woman of many talents and hobbies. She learned how to crochet, enjoyed sewing and painting ceramics. After building their retirement home in 1985, she took great pride in establishing beautiful flower beds. She took wood carving classes from a Master Woodcarver and carved life size waterfowl feather by feather. Joyce also had a deep interest in American Indian Art which lead her to another hobby of oil painting. Music surrounded Joyce’s world. She sang in the church choir and especially loved to dance. Joyce had a fear of water, but was determined to learn how to swim and she did at the Oshkosh YMCA. Everyone who knew Joyce knew she had a gift of gab. She loved the many conversations with her customers, friends and family. She was seldom at a loss for words. She was a classy lady and made certain she had the latest in clothing trends, shoes, handbags and jewelry. Joyce had a special place in her heart for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and always will.

Joyce is survived by her children: Donald (Kris) Roberts of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Jeffrey (Vivian) Roberts of Lebanon, New Jersey, Christine Schettle of Oshkosh, and Jacqueline (Dan Lambert) Roberts of Appleton; five grandchildren: Ryann Roberts, Amy Kaiser, Lauren Busacca, Adam Schettle, and Bradley Schettle; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Leonard (Diane) Bradley of Madison; and brother-in-law, Henry Guell. She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Lee on May 9, 2018; sisters: Vivian (Marvin) Tews, Shirley (Melvin) Zeatlow and Eunice Guell; brother, Dale Bradley.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Kwiatkowski Funeral Home. A time of visiting and sharing of memories will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Omro Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.omrofuneralhome.com.
