Thomas “Tom” M. Frees, age 56, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, June 16, 2019. He was born in Oshkosh on September 21, 1962, the son of Russell and Ellen (Diel) Frees. On March 21, 1987, he married Tanya Snowbarger in Johnson, KS. He worked for Morgan Doors after high school, then became a mail carrier in 1994 for the United States Postal Service, serving in Menasha, Omro, Oshkosh and Neenah. Tom volunteered his time by driving bus for Valley Christian School Athletics and their EAA Hotel. He was active in Vacation Bible School and ran the sound board at Eureka United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Known as an early riser, he enjoyed socializing with friends at early morning breakfast. He also enjoyed being outdoors, playing softball and hunting. Tom will be remembered for being a “Huge” family man, for being a jokester, and for volunteering his time helping anyone in need by responding, “I’d love to.” His personality would always brighten everyone’s day.

Tom is survived by his wife, Tanya; children: Christopher Frees and Alyssa Frees; his parents: Russell and Ellen Frees Sr.; siblings: Sue Frees, Russ (Kathleen) Frees Jr., David (Deborah) Frees, Kathy (Aaron) Hawkinson, Marie (Brett) Jornod and Gary (Tracy) Frees; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Michael Frees.

A visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at the funeral home. The visitation will continue at Eureka United Methodist Church, 8832 Wisconsin St., Eureka, on Friday, June 21st, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Omro Cemetery, Omro. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Tom’s name is being established.

The family extends a special thank you to Cancer Treatment Centers of America for their wonderful care and to those drove Tom to and from the Center. Also, a huge thank you to the friends and family for all the visits, prayers and support. He fought the good fight and kept the faith.

Carriers from the United States Postal Service will be conducting a "Last Delivery" service at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

I’m very sorry to read the passing of your beloved Thomas. Please accept my sincere condolences. I have personally felt comforted by the promise made by God of bringing back to life those who sleep in death (1 Thes. 4:14). So be assured that you’ll be able to hug, kiss and talk to Thomas again. He will come back into an Earth free of suffering, sickness and anything that causes us to shed tears of pain (Rev. 21:4). This hope is both sure and firm because Jehovah God cannot lie (Heb. 6:18; Titus 1:2). Is my sincere desire that you can also find comfort in this words during this difficult time for you.

Tom had such a fun loving spirit about him. I have so many fond memories of growing up in Poygan. Playing “jack”ball and softball with Tom. What a wonderful example of living life to the fullest!!

Tom loved the Lord, so I know he is in heaven with all of his loved ones who have gone before him and is no longer in pain. I can picture Grandma Frees, his brother Johnny, and Uncle Judd welcoming him at the gate. Tom was a wonderful cousin with a kind heart and a big smile. He brightened my day with his cheerful personality. A fond memory that I have of Tom was the time that he left the longest, funniest message on our voice mail because he found out our machine did not cut people off. The message went on and on and Tom laughed as he filled up our answering machine with his goofy chatter. Mike and I loved him and will miss him. ((Hugs)) to his entire family.

To all the Frees' family. Tom was a great human being and the definition of a true gentleman. I will miss working with him and his positive attitude and big smile. If you were having a bad day, it did not last long once you ran into Tom for the day. My fondest and most cherished memory of Tom was in May 2018. My wife Sue had Thyroid Cancer and went in for surgery. Tom battling his own health issues, put them aside and stopped after work to visit Sue, buying her a ice cream bar and visiting with encouragement for better health! Tom was also our mail carrier for a while, and our dog Brewer (a black and tan coonhound) just loved him! If either myself or my wife were walking Brewer at the time Tom was delivering mail, Brewer would start his coon
howling and literally drag us at a fast sprint to get to Tom and get his famous Tom backrub! Will miss the get togethers for a meal and good friendship. A great man and a great loss! Rest in peace my brother and see you on the other side!
